I know that I have been successful when I use nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs.

I was learning to use descriptive words in my writing.

It was tricky to think of ''ing'' words for my did you ever poem. Next time I will work even harder to think of suitable words I could use a dictionary or a thesaurus for more ideas.
